An interesting video that depicts about the L2 learning and teaching
Introduction
To be honest, I really like this class due to the fact that provides a variety of activities in the classroom. The techniques that are used in this video express the new idea for second language teaching and learning.
We see in this video that the teacher, first of all delivers a list of employments to the students and requires them to mention some of the jobs. For example, like if some say “salesman” he replies that “I have never done as salesman” etc. Then he asks the students to write down a list of the jobs to get them talking about the theme of the lesson.
And we find out that the teacher presents the vocabulary according to these steps:
1. Elicit - take some pictures and ask about the occupation of the job for example ‘astronaut’, where he is doing that job, what is the special cloth he has to wear etc.
2. Model – provide pictures and present them to students so that students can know the name, the occupation, the position and the job.
3. Drill - repeat it again and again or replace it with a new one and make the students remember quickly.
4. Concept and check - check whether the students understand or not
5. Write and highlight phonology – write down the vocabulary and show where should the students have to stress, the beginning, middle or the end of the word.
Conclusion
To provide new ideas and effective techniques in second learning and teaching, the methods that are used in this video should take into practice.
